Project details
Leaf Watch is a successful smartphone app that uses crowd-sourcing to collect data about the spread of a parasitic insect in UK conker trees. The project was featured on BBC1′s The One Show as well as in several UK national newspapers. It reached 6th place in the iTunes App Store Education section and was featured on the App Store homepage.
As a companion to the phone app, we produced a website where users could see the results of the survey, as well as take part in the validation of the data. We incorporated elements of gamification in the online validation widget. I worked alongside a small team of developers from ILRT as well as Stuart Church from Pure Usability, who did the user research and overall interaction design.
